Ultrasound

General Information

We have Ultrasound departments in both our Lebanon and Palmyra offices. Both Gynecological and obstetrical ultrasound services are provided as well as ultrasound based procedures such as amniocentesis and saline infusions.

The Ultrasound Department is accredited by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) to perform gynecological and obstetrical ultrasounds. Our sonographers are certified by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in the specialty of OB/GYN. All of our physicians are skilled in interpreting both gynecologic and obstetrical ultrasounds.

In Lebanon, we accept Ultrasound appointments between 8:15 am and 4 pm Monday through Friday. In Palmyra, we also offer Ultrasound appointments - check with your scheduler for availability of appointments. Extended evening hours are also available for Obstetrical patients most Wednesday evenings until 7:30 PM. The Women’s Health Center staff is comprised of three highly trained sonographers.

Ultrasound testing must be specifically ordered by a physician for a medical reason and is not intended for the purpose of entertainment or gender determination. If you wish to see 3D/4D images of your baby or to determine your baby's gender, see the information on our web site about Keepsake Ultrasounds, a fee-for-service area that we offer in our Lebanon office.

Obstetrical Ultrasound

Ultrasound lets the doctor "see" inside a patient’s body. During pregnancy, ultrasound is used to examine the growing fetus inside the mother’s uterus. Sometimes, transvaginal ultrasound is used during pregnancy to find the cause of bleeding or pain, to rule out an ectopic pregnancy, to measure cervical length, or to find certain types of birth defects in the fetus early in pregnancy.

If an ultrasound is recommended by one of our physicians during your pregnancy, we will discuss the procedure and the particular indicators for it with you.

Sonohysterography (Saline Infusion Ultrasound)

Sonohysterography or Saline Infusion as it is often called, is an ultrasound procedure we perform in our office. Sonohysterography requires infusion of saline into the uterine cavity during transvaginal ultrasound. This process can help delineate more clearly the presence of intrauterine lesions. This can be particularly helpful in cases of abnormal uterine bleeding.

Saline Infusions are performed in the Ultrasound Department at our Lebanon location. A special appointment is required for this procedure. If a sonohysterogram is recommended by one of our physicians, we will discuss the procedure and the particular indicators for it with you.

Lebanon, PA - The Ultrasound Practice Accreditation Commission of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) is pleased to announce that Women's Health Center of Lebanon, Ltd. is among a growing number of ultrasound practices to achieve accreditation in obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound. "The AIUM's Ultrasound Practice Accreditation Commission is reviewing numerous applications for accreditation," states AIUM's Director of Accreditation Lynn Burnett, RDMS, RVT. "Women's Health Center of Lebanon, Ltd. has achieved accreditation in recognition that the practice has met voluntary standards set by the diagnostic ultrasound profession. The entire practice was reviewed, including the practice's personnel; physical facilities; documentation, storage, and record-keeping practices; policies and procedures; quality assurance methods; case studies; and how the practice meets the AIUM's standards."

The Women's Health Center of Lebanon, Ltd. successfully completed the application process for obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound practice accreditation and was awarded accreditation.

Participation in the AIUM's Ultrasound Practice Accreditation program is voluntary and is available to practices in the following areas of ultrasound: abdominal/general, obstetrical or focused obstetrical, gynecological, vascular, breast, or any combination of these areas. The accreditation process allows ultrasound practices the opportunity to assess their strengths and weaknesses and to initiate changes for improving and strengthening their overall operation. The AIUM developed this program in response to the many changes in the approach to healthcare delivery that have resulted in an increased scrutiny of diagnostic evaluations, as well as technical improvements that have allowed for the expanded use of ultrasound and have dramatically increased the number of physicians and sonographers using this imaging modality.
